Increased Login Security

Improving the security of your account
We are continuously looking to improve our security procedures to make it even safer for you to either open an account with us or log into your account. Here are some of our most recent changes:

As it is our aim to reassure you that any sensitive/personal information that you send through to us is secured, we have recently upgraded our current security certificate to Extended Validation (EV). What does this mean for you? If you have Internet Explorer 7 or Fire Fox 2.0 you will be able to clearly distinguish between a secure and a non-secure site. This is achieved by having the address bar changing green when you log onto secured pages. Also to the right of the padlock icon, which now appears at the top of the page is the name of the organisation that owns the EV SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate.

Changes to our login process

  • A new login button on the homepage will take you to a new login page. Important Note: If you have saved your username in the login area on the homepage, this will not be saved on the new login page and will need to be re-entered.
  • Enter just three random characters from your login password rather than typing the whole password.
  • To change your login password, select keys from an on screen keyboard using your mouse or tab key to prevent someone tracking your keyboard actions.
  • To choose or change a dealing password, select keys from an on screen keyboard using your mouse or tab key.

The new Login Process

In addition to your username (Direct Trader Account Number) the new login process requires you to provide just three random characters from your login password rather than type in the whole password.

Entering randomly selected characters each time prevents someone from tracking your keyboard actions to discover your password, because the letters you type will be different with every login and you will never type the whole password.

To provide all the necessary support information for you when logging in, a new login button will replace the username and password boxes on our Homepage and you will be taken to a dedicated login page.

Important Note: If you have ticked to save your username in the login area on the Direct Trader homepage, your username will no longer be saved on the new login page. You will need to re-enter your username and save it again on the new page. If you do not have your username please call us on 0870 60 65 023.

Save time by remembering your username

To save time when logging on to the secure dealing service, you can choose to have your username saved on your computer so you don't have to remember or type it each time you login from the same computer.

To do this, tick the 'Save Username' box on the login page and your username will be shown each time you login.

You should not choose this option if you are using a shared or public computer.

If you change your mind and no longer wish to have your username saved, you can un-tick the 'Save Username' box that you originally ticked (thus deleting the cookie on your computer - see below).

How we save your username

We store your username on your computer by using a 'cookie'. Cookies are small pieces of information sent to your computer by a website you visit so that information you have supplied can be accessed at a later date by that same website.

Cookies are safe and do not contain any confidential or personal information such as your password or name and address.

To learn more about cookies visit the 'Your Information On-line' section of our Privacy Policy.

Changing your login password

You can change your login password online. Once logged in, go to Maintenance/Log on Password. Alternatively please call us on 0870 60 65 023.

To change your login password online, you will now be required to select keys from an on screen keyboard using your mouse or tab key. This prevents someone from tracking your keyboard actions to discover your password.

Choosing/Changing Your Dealing Password

As an added security measure you can choose a dealing password, which you will then be asked to provide before placing a trade. Please note that a dealing password is optional for placing trades, but one must be used if you wish to make cash withdrawals.

You can set this password or change it online. Once logged in, go to Maintenance/Dealing Password.

To set or change your dealing password online, you will now be required to select keys from an on screen keyboard using your mouse or tab button. This means you do not have to press any keys on your own keyboard, so it prevents someone from tracking your keyboard actions to discover your password.
