Funds

Investment Funds
These are funds, owned by one or more investors and managed as one entity by one or more managers. The legal structure of the fund can take many forms, including unit trusts and OEICs.

Unit Trusts
An investment fund in which your money is invested with many other people's so that together you can invest in a greater variety of stock than you could individually. Each investor owns units of the overall fund. The value of these units depends on the value of the assets owned by the trust.

OEICS
An open-ended investment company (OEIC) is a collective investment fund similar to a unit trust. The major differences are that OEICs quote a single price rather than a bid and offer price, and they are governed by company law rather than trust law.

Fund Supermarket

Fixed income

Fixed-interest bonds
These bonds are issued by a company, local authority or the Government (gilts or gilt-edged). The amount of interest paid to investors is fixed when the bonds are issued.

Bonds and Gilts
A bond is a loan that can be traded. You act as an investor, lending the issuer money in return for a series of interest payments and, usually, the promise to have the loan repaid on a fixed date.

With Direct Trader you can invest in more than 200 investment-grade bonds, including all UK Government bonds (gilts), and bonds issued by the European Investment Bank (EIB), blue chip corporations and individual companies.
